Engagement
The ergonomic form that shapes the DUO today emerged in Cairo in 2019, on a project trip to Ezbet el-Nakhl. A connection from that trip has stayed with us ever since: the Mahabba School, led by Sr. Demiana.
How this page came to be
Krützberg began as a project, not as a marketing idea. The ergonomic refinements to the DUO — the back plate between the shoulder blades, the chest mounts — were tested and fixed in Ezbet el-Nakhl in 2019.
The trip also produced the analogue black-and-white series „InSight Cairo“, shown in 2022 at Vringstreff e. V. in Cologne (3 May to 14 June). Proceeds from the exhibition went to the Mahabba School in Cairo and to Vringstreff.
This page points to the Mahabba School because that connection is part of where the product comes from. It does not sell anything and does not collect anything.
The Mahabba School
The Mahabba School is located in Ezbet el-Nakhl, a waste-collection area in north-east Cairo, a ten-minute walk from the Salam Center. It is a private institution of the Daughters of Saint Mary (DSM), a Coptic religious order, and is led by Sr. Demiana.
The school has grown from an original 450 to over 2,600 places. It admits children from the families of waste collectors as well as from the middle class. Class sizes below 30, small-group teaching, regular awards from state inspectors. Siblings attend free of charge.
Next to the school, the Salam Center is the diaconal centre: hospital, kindergarten, a facility for people with disabilities, tutoring, vocational training. Led by Sr. Maria.
The link to Germany runs through the Egypt Partnership of the Protestant Church District of Moers, in partnership with the Diocese of Beni Suef since 1979.
Ways to support the work on the ground
Mahabba school sponsorship — 30 € per month
The monthly school fee of 30 € is funded for children from the waste area through private donors. It covers books, school uniform, health insurance and teacher salaries. Children are exempted fully or partly from payment based on need.

Seeds of Hope — children with disabilities
A DSM facility within the Salam Center: Montessori support for children, a workshop for young people with disabilities, and a residential home for children and young people whose families can no longer collect them. One-off or regular donation from 25 € per month; a residential place needs at least 50 € per month.

What Krützberg does not do here
Krützberg does not forward any share of orders or revenue directly to the Mahabba School or to the Kirchenkreis Moers. This page is a reference, not a channel.
A sponsorship or donation is set up by the buyer directly and independently with the carrier organisation — via the bank details above or through the relevant project page. Krützberg is not involved in that transaction, does not see it and receives no share.
We want to make the connection visible without using it as a sales argument. Anyone who wants to support the work there should do so directly.
